Open Days

The Stover Canal Society and the Stover Canal Trust are holding an open weekend on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th August 2007, 10.30am to 4.30pm each day.

All visitors are welcome. There will be exhibitions and guided walks along stretches of canal that have been cleared, and along stretches still to be completed.

Come along and see:

  • The photographic history of the canal and the restoration work done by the Stover Canal Society so far.
  • The Trust's plans for the future of the canal.
  • The Clay Heritage Society's display of photos and old tools.
  • WBB Minerals' Bovey Basin Biodiversity Action Plan
  • The Newton Abbot and District Community Strategy

Prize Draw

To provide funding to move forward the restoration of the canal, the Stover Canal Trust is running a Prize Draw to match fund a donation by WBB.

1st Prize: £200
2nd Prize: £100
3rd Prize: £50

Guided Walks 2005

Discover some of the history of the Stover Canal on one of two walks along part of an important piece of Newton Abbot's industrial heritage. the walks are conducted at a leisurely pace and cover a circular route of approximately two miles, and take about one hour fifteen minutes. Stout footwear should be worn.

You will hear about the history of the building of the canal and its use. Find out about our plans to preserve, restore and maintain this valuable asset for the education, pleasure and recreational enjoyment of the people of Newton Abbot and the surrounding area.
